"Painting Children From Life" : Three - Day Mini Workshop

June 18th, 19th, and 20th, 2008
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 9:00 to 4:00 each day

$350 plus $10 model fee

Children present particular joys and difficulties for the figurative painter. Painting them from life is a challenge because they are notoriously prone to move when they should be holding still for the artist. However, when life painting is done well, a portrait of a child painted from life can have an unsurpassable honesty, directness and beauty. An added benefit is to inspire the child: posing for a portrait painted from life provides a unique and unforgettable window into the creative process and could possibly foster a lifelong interest in the visual arts. In this class, we will discuss lighting, clothing posing the body and ways to keep the child engaged in the portrait process, as well as anatomical differences between children and adults. Students should have considerable experience in life work before taking this class.
