Ballerina paintingI would like to honor my fellow portrait painters, engaged as I am in the wonderful discovery of painting and the human soul. All of you are my teachers. From the past, I would like to honor the masters Caravaggio, Moroni, Velazquez, Vermeer, Rembrandt, VanDyck, Repin, Sargent, Sorolla, Whistler and many others whose work inspires me daily.

Through my portraits I attempt to express emotions. The main response I receive from my clients is that my portraits keep changing, that they never remain the same. I consider this the highest compliment, for I view life as a constantly changing, dynamic force of evolution.

I love painting the innocence of childhood, the depths of adulthood, the wisdom of experience. My greatest desire is to continuously share my own experience with those who love art and people as much as I do. —John de la Vega
