Award-winning portrait artist Sonia, paints custom oil portraits internationally. She paints official and family portraits, children's portraits in oil and pastel as well as landscapes, seascapes and floral paintings. Sonia is a graduate of Colby College in Waterville, Maine where she double-majored in English and Art, although she was accepted to Tufts University's Engineering program. Her painting style was favorably noted upon by her teachers at the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston, Massachusetts and the Colby Professor of Art.
Sonia is a third-generation student of John Singer Sargent. She studied at the New York Art Students’ League in New York City, as well as at the Copley Society in Boston and on a national basis with tbe best portrait artists of our time with lineage going back to JSS and was mentored for five years. Sonia feels grateful to have studied with these famed artists as many are now deceased or in their late 80's. Locally Sonia studied and took workshops with famous portrait artist Robert Cormier who passed on the traditions and values of renowned Boston School artist R.H. Ives Gammell. She also studied with well-known/ famous portrat artist, Constance Flavell Pratt, learning nuances of pastel portrait painting.
Sonia is a member of the Portrait Society of America, the National Arts Club of New York, Oil Painter’s of America; the Artist’s Fellowship of New York, the Portrait Society of Atlanta of Atlanta, Georgia; the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists of Greenwich, Connecticut and Wellesley Society of Artists of Wellesley, Massachusetts. She enjoys events such as the Boston International Fine Art Show, the conference of the Portrait Society of America and Connecticut Society of Portrait Artist events.
Some noteworthy events have include painting in Greenwich, CT for the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists & Greenwich Art Council "Arts to the Avenue," as well as in Wellesley, MA, and exhibiting works in Greenwich, CT and Westport, CT, as well as at Page-Waterman Gallery in Wellesley, MA and the Art Guild of Manhasset, New York and in Atlanta, Georgia. She has also enjoyed the opportunity to paint in Vermont with the Putney Painters as a guest artist.
Sonia's portrait and landscape work is sought after by many private and corporate collectors. Her work hangs internationally. She resides in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
