About the Artist

PORTRAITS

The fees vary, according to size of canvas and number of people in the portrait.  The following prices are for single portraits. To add an additional figure, the price will increase by 50%.

All sizes below are approximate and can be adjusted (taking into consideration hanging site of the portrait, compositional needs, etc.).  If you have an antique frame you would like to use, the portrait can be made to fit.

            Small portrait:  bust (ca. 20” x 16”)                                                      $4,000

            Medium portrait:  bust (ca. 30” x 24”)                                                  $5,500

            Large portrait:  1/2 figure or 3/4 length seated (ca. 36” x 30”)              $6,500

            X-large portrait: full-figure seated or 3/4 figure standing (ca. 48” x 38”) $8,000

            A grand-scale portrait                                                            Negotiated price

A deposit of 1/2 the total is required before commencing a portrait. The remainder is due upon acceptable completion of the work. The prices above do not include sales tax, framing, or travel expenses.

All paintings are executed using the finest quality oil paints and linen canvas.

The artist can provide assistance with high quality framing.

An initial conversation is held to discuss the general expectations of the portrait (practical and aesthetic).  Once a commitment to the portrait is made, a meeting is scheduled to find the suitable composition, dress, etc. This includes a photo shoot (approximately one hour). When the decision is made to proceed with the composition (usually confirmed by photographs), a schedule of sittings is determined, if applicable.

The portrait is painted either from sittings, photograph(s), or a combination (as determined by client and/or artist preference, time consideration, distance factor, and availability of subject). Portraits can be painted from a client's photograph, as well.

Upon completion of the painting, the final payment for the portrait is due, including any additional expenses, if applicable ie. travel, shipping.

Portrait Fees

Always fascinated by visual imagery — in nature and in art, Isabel chose the oil painting medium to translate her vision of people, animals, and landscape. Portraits continue to dominate her interest. As an artist, Isabel is continually inspired by the legacy of other artists and refreshed by the novelty in every face she paints.

An artist since her childhood in Connecticut, Isabel graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in art history. In addition, she studied drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and painting. She received her Master's Degree in art history from the Villa Schifanoia, Florence, Italy.

After living in New York City for several years, she moved to Los Angeles, where she has continued painting, concentrating on portraiture for over twenty-five years. In addition, she does still life pieces, figurative work, and landscapes. As an oil portraitist, Isabel paints personal as well as official portraits and has clients from Los Angeles to Paris.
