Artist Michele Rushworth puts the finishing touches on the portrait of Seattle Mariners professional baseball player, Edgar Martinez, to commemorate his retirement after 18 years with the team. In order to have the painting ready in time for the unveiling, Rushworth had only ten days in which to complete it.

The portrait was unveiled at Seattle's Safeco Field stadium in front of over 40,000 fans and dignitaries. The painting can be seen approximately in the center of this photograph, along the first base line.

"Talented Northwest artist Michele Rushworth has created a wonderful piece that I would like now to unveil and present to you." — Seattle Mariners CEO Howard Lincoln

"An amazing portrait brought smiles from everyone." — Rich Waltz, Sportscaster for Fox Sports Network

Edgar Martinez, who played the position of Designated Hitter, holds many Major League Baseball records. He is also a fan favorite because of his easygoing, warm personality and his loyalty to Seattle, playing out his entire professional career with the Mariners.

Also in attendance at Edgar's retirement celebration were the Governor of Washington State, Gary Locke, the Commissioner of Major League Baseball, Bud Selig, Edgar's family members, along with current and former Seattle Mariners players.
