Seattle newscaster Susan Hutchison: "Seattle artist
Michele Rushworth has painted a masterpiece, a portrait
of New York Firefighter Douglas Oelschlager, who lost
his life in the attacks on September 11, 2001." |
Rushworth created the portrait as a donation for Doug's
widow, though the two women had never met. |

the South Tower of the World Trade Center on September
11, 2001. |
CBS News brought Michele to New York to present the
painting to the firefighter's widow and daughters, live
on "The Early Show". Michele talks to Early
Show host, Jane Clayson, about the process of creating
the portrait. |
Suzanne Oelschlager, widow of Doug Oelschlager says,
"This painting is something that my entire family
is going to cherish forever. Thank you so much. It truly
captured him." Suzanne feels it is her mission
to get her husband's story out, so his life is not forgotten. |
"When I decided to create this painting it was
because I knew, after 9/11, that I wanted to contribute
something of meaning and to try and make a difference,
at least to one New York family," says Rushworth. |
