Capturing the human spirit, beauty and form in a painting or drawing
has been a passion of mine since childhood. I try to reach beyond
the exterior to capture the subject's inner dimension. Rembrandt
was a master at doing this and I draw inspiration from his style
and mood of painting the subject. I am particularly drawn to poses
that reflect an expressive feeling or reflection.
Drawing and painting have been part of my life since childhood
and drawing the face and figure was what I was most interested in
pursuing. Frequent visits to the exhibits at local and national
art galleries helped to expand my appreciation of the visual arts
and implant a strong passion to be a part of that world. My training
has been and continues to be in the classical "old master"
school and my work reflects the classical art training that I received.
I attended American University with a major in fine arts. In 1992
I went back to art school for continued studies in portrait work,
anatomy, classical drawing and figure and still life painting with
master portrait painter Danni Dawson and also studied privately
with several prominent portrait painters. I continue to study "old
master" still life painting at a classical atelier and spend
my time drawing and painting portraits on a commission basis along
with painting classical still life pieces.
My work has appeared in numerous juried art exhibitions and garnared several awards.
I am honored to be a juried member of the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters, the
Arts Club of Washington, and the Portrait Society of America.
