Mr.Ward began his formal art training at age 10 at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. After a reasonable interval he received Bachelor's and Master's Degrees of Fine Arts in painting and design at the University of Georgia and Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He taught painting and design at the School of Visual Arts in New York and at the Sharon Arts Center in Sharon, New Hampshire. His decision to devote is life to portrait painting came as a result of teaching portrait painting and studying methods of the Master Painters from the Renaissance to the present day. Painting and the study of fine arts have been central to his life and career. For 25 years Mr.Ward was absorbed with painting and with overseeing his successful graphic design office in New York and Dublin, New Hampshire. Since his move to Dublin in 1986 his commissions for individual, family and corporate portraits, have grown rapidly, aided by shows of his work and a recognition of his accomplishments. His design work has received many national awards and has been circulated in this country and abroad in books, periodicals and exhibitions. A lifelong interest in photography has proved an asset in his portrait work. Although there may be preliminary sketches made during initial meetings with the subject, Mr. Ward always makes a complete photographic record not only of the subject but also of the setting and artifacts to be featured in the portrait. This approach has proved convenient for the subject of the portrait and provides a wealth of carefully orchestrated photographic material for the portrait. |
