JULIA
MACLEOD WILLIAMS has received acclaim and admiration from hundreds
of clients throughout the United States for her enchanting portraits
of children. Equally adept at painting adults, Williams' sensitive
portrayal of each subject captures the physical likeness while offering
a sense of the individual's presence through a knowledge of the sitter,
her understanding of composition, and control of the oil medium.
Julie received her early creative experience working in the advertising
and trade show industry with Exxon Office Systems. In 1978 she moved
to Hilton Head, South Carolina where opportunities were offered to
create story illustrations and commissioned magazine covers of sports
personalities. Her winning illustrations became the focus of numerous
publications and was named official cover artist for celebrity golf
magazines. Many of her paintings became part of private collections
of national sportsmen and television producers. This recognition opened
the door for her primary love, portraiture, for which she is known
today.
Williams holds a BFA in Painting from Syracuse University, studied
under Arthur Maynard at the Ridgewood Art Institute in Ridgewood,
New Jersey and with Joseph Bowler in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
She is a member of the Portrait Society of America and the American
Society of Portrait Painters.
Ms. Williams' studio is located on Monument Avenue in Richmond, Virginia.
"Producing a portrait is a joy. It must carry the likeness, a
true sense of the subject, connect the viewer to the subject and achieve
excellence for the client".
