Katherine Roche Buchanan’s paintings hang in corporations, museums, government buildings, and homes throughout the United States.
She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mississippi University for Women in 1977 with a concentration in watercolor and oil painting. Katherine spent many years working as an illustrator and Art Director for various magazines in addition to painting commissioned fine art.
She is a member of Portrait Society of America, Mississippi Oils Painters Association, and Portraits, Inc.
She enjoys plein air, still life, and figurative painting.
Her greatest motivation in portraiture is "to capture the best qualities of a person and have an overall beautiful work of art. You know when it's there."
I am always looking for something really special about a subject. Sometimes it's only a sense, a hint...There is something beautiful about every person. I try to pick up on what is good and positive."
Katherine is an experienced painter of both children and adults. She says her ability to capture the attributes of a person that may not show up in a photograph, has been a great asset to her work. Her clients find her very easy to work with, because she wants them to be absolutely pleased with the outcome.
She is honored to be represented by Portraits, Inc., and is a member of Portrait Society of America, Mississippi Oils Painters Association, and Oil Painters of America.
